FRONTLINE SPOT-ON DOGS

Pharmacotherapeutic group

Pesticides for external use.Excipients
Ethanol, Polyvidone, Polysorbate 80, Butylhydroxyanisole, Butylhydroxytoluene, Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.Active principles
Fipronil.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of tick infestations (Rhipicephalus spp., Dermacentor spp., Ixodes spp.), Fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.) And lice in adult dogs and puppies. Fipronil rapidly exerts its lethal action on ticks, preventing the development of the parasite and the possible transmission of infections of which the tick is a vector. It is active against the main species of ticks present on the national territory, including Ixodes ricinus, responsible for the transmission of Lyme disease to dogs, cats and humans. Fipronil acts on fleas by rapidly killing adult forms, thus preventing the deposition of eggs and therefore new infestations. Thanks to its lethal action on adult fleas, fipronil effectively contributes to the control and resolution of Flea Allergic Dermatitis (FAD) which, in dogs, is caused by the sensitizing action exerted by the antigens contained in the saliva of these parasites. Fipronil also, with a single treatment, quickly and definitively controls and resolves lice infestations, especially those caused by Trichodectes canis, the dog's biting louse.
Contraindications
In the absence of data, do not use the product in puppies younger than 8 weeks and / or weighing less than 2 kg. Do not use in sick animals (systemic diseases, with fever, etc.) or convalescing. Do not use in rabbits as life-threatening adverse reactions may occur. This product is intended for dogs only. Do not use in cats, to avoid overdose phenomena. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Dosage
It is presented in single-dose pipettes containing different volumes of product, depending on the weight of the dog. 1 pipette of 0.67 ml for dogs weighing between 2 and 10 kg; 1 pipette of 1.34 ml for dogs weighing between 10 and 20 kg; 1 pipette of 2.68 ml for dogs weighing between 20 and 40 kg; 1 pipette of 4.02 ml for dogs weighing between 40 and 60 kg The dosage indicated corresponds to the minimum recommended dose of 6.7 mg / kg of fipronil. For dogs weighing more than 60 kg, use 1 pipette of 4.02 ml and 1 pipette of the most appropriate lower strength (0.67 ml or 1.34 ml or 2.68 ml): break the pre- cut of the pipette. Apply the product on the skin of the interscapular area, an area where the dog does not get to lick itself, avoiding the removal of the product. The contents of the pipette must be applied directly on the skin and not on the hair: press on the walls of the pipette until completely empty. A single application of the product protects the animal from new infestations by ticks, fleas and lice, in particular: - from ticks: up to 1 month after treatment - from fleas: up to 3 months after treatment. For correct ectoparasitic prevention it is advisable to carry out monthly treatments in the periods of greater seasonality. In the absence of safety data, the minimum treatment interval should be 4 weeks.storage
Store in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees C.Warnings
It is important that the product is applied in an area where the animal cannot lick and take care that the animals do not lick each other after the treatment. Avoid contact with the eyes of the animal In case of accidental contact with the eyes, immediately and abundantly rinse the eyes with water. Do not apply the product on wounds or broken skin. It is advisable to avoid immersion in water or baths in the 2 days following the application of the product and baths more frequently than once a week, since there are no data available to demonstrate how much this affects the activity of the product. Emollient shampoos can be used before treatment, but if used weekly after applying the product, they reduce the duration of protection against fleas to about 5 weeks. Weekly baths with 2% chlorhexidine medicated shampoos did not reduce the product's efficacy against fleas in a 6-week study. It is advisable not to allow dogs to swim in streams in the 2 days following the application of the product. If the dog has been treated before exposure to ticks, they will be eliminated in the first 24-48 hours after the attack, i.e. before the completion of the meal, reducing but not excluding the risk of disease transmission. Once dead, the ticks will fall off the animals, any remaining ticks can be easily removed by pulling them lightly. Fleas present on animals often infest the animal's bed, blankets and areas where the animal lives, in particular carpets, curtains and furnishing fabrics; these, in case of massive infestations and at the beginning of pesticide treatment, can be treated with a special insecticide and regularly cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. For optimal control of flea infestation it is advisable to treat all cohabiting animals. Special precautions for those administering the product to animals: the product can cause irritation to the mucous membranes and eyes. It is therefore advisable to avoid contact with the mouth and eyes. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, wash immediately and abundantly with water. If eye irritation persists, consult a doctor and show him the label. Avoid contact with Frontline Spot On Dogs to animals or people with known sensitivity to insecticides or alcohol. Do not let the contents come into contact with your hands. If so, wash your hands with soap and water. Wash hands after use. Do not touch animals and do not let children play with treated animals until the application site is dry. It is therefore advisable not to treat the animals during the day, but to treat them in the evening and, if just treated, not to let them sleep with the owners, especially with children. Do not smoke, drink or eat during application. Overdose: In the safety studies no adverse reactions were observed in puppies of 8 weeks of age, in growing dogs and in dogs weighing approximately 2 kg, treated once at doses five times higher than the recommended dose. The risk of the occurrence of adverse reactions (see section 4.6) may however increase in case of overdose, therefore animals should always be treated with the pipette of the size corresponding to their body weight.Interactions
None known.Side effects
If the animals lick each other, a transient hypersalivation may be observed mainly due to the excipients of the product. Among the extremely rare phenomena of suspected adverse reactions, transient skin reactions at the application site (skin discoloration, local alopecia, pruritus, erythema) and diffuse pruritus or alopecia after application have been described. Exceptionally, hypersalivation, reversible neurological symptoms (hyperesthesia, depression, nervous symptoms), vomiting or respiratory symptoms have been observed.Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The product can be used during pregnancy and during lactation.
